Annie Chen, assistant story editor by day, an aspiring screenwriter by night, is tired of the same one-to-four-night stands. Furthermore, she wants nothing to do with the womanizer at work who has plenty of his share of female admirers he drops at the denouement of their relationships. Not to mention her compulsive shopping disorder. When she meets Ian McDrew, a law clerk she is instantly attracted to, she finds out he's already practically engaged. Will she be able to forget Ian, and walk down the aisle with an up-and-coming artist in marriage bliss?
EXCERPT FROM THE NOVEL:
"You're probably right," she responded, her brow furrowed, a bit embarrassed. Annie realized her older sister Kay genuinely wanted to help her, and Kay didn't like it if she thought someone was trying to take advantage of her younger sister. So that was going good, Annie realized. This whole thing about her dating experiences proved that.
Annie wanted to open up to her. "I know, Kay. This guy I'm dating...he has a girlfreind. He told me later she works as a coat checker at a bar in Huntington Beach."
"How can he have two girlfriends?" she remarked, as if it was beyond her belief. "It's really hard to get rid of people if they move in," she said, matter-of-factly.
Annie tried to stop herself, but she couldn't hold it in.
"He was even talking about marriage!" Annie blurted. OK, this isn't complaining, it's just me, being honest, she realized, in a quick flash of defense.
"Really?" She too was surprised. "Kenneth didn't propose until after two years of us dating together. Isn't that rushing things?" Kay slowly mixed together her hoisin sauce on top of the thin mushu pancake.
Annie took a few bites of the lightly spiced General Tso's chicken over rice.
"And he has a girlfriend." Kay paused, then went back to swallowing a bite of her mushu pork pancake. "But don't feel sorry for him. Be a little mean to him even," she said, firmly.
"I don't feel sorry for him! And I don't want to be mean to him!"
